Mercy and Justice
Our mission at Holy Cross concludes with seeking to bring the Kingdom of God to bear on every aspect of life in the city. One of the ways that plays out is through mercy and justice.
Mercy, Scripturally, is simply a way of talking about showing compassion to someone. It is a way of providing care for those in crisis (Isa 41.17, 58.6-7)
If mercy is temporarliy alleviating someone's suffering bound up in a broken system, justice is actually seeking to see that system changed to reflect the Kingdom of God (Amos 5.15; Micah 6.8)
The goal of both of these is the same goal as the rest of Gospel ministry, wholeness as God intended for people and His world (Deut 15.1-5). At Holy Cross we believe that the best way to accomplish this is through the principles of Gospel-centered Community Development outlined by the Chalmers Center.
If you are in crisis and need help you can either stop by on Sunday morning or call our office 540-885-5551.
